I am extremely passionate about the use of MEDIA in order to engage citizens in a social cause and mobilization them to not only become aware of such issues but also to fight for the cause. I recognize the importance of MEDIA AS MOBILIZATION because of Invisible Children Inc. I remember when I was in high school an Invisible Children Inc employee traveled to my high school, my small Catholic high school of just over 100 students at the time to share with us the famous powerful documentary that has captured the hearts of so many other Americans, this documentary that reveals the atrocities being performed by the warlord Joseph Kony's LRA, this documentary that revealed, at least to me, the capturing of so many children like me ( a freshman in high school at the time, my sister a sophomore) or even younger than me (like my little brother a 6th grader in middle school at the time) or even younger than him (like my baby cousins, ages 6 and 4 at the time). See this video was effective! I CARE because I see this children as my "family" a part my global "family". Since there parents, and siblings, and peers cannot fight for them in fear of being capture, enslaved and or worse because they have already been killed by their children, or brother or sister, or cousin. Watching this documentary which you can find a similar one below was the first time I was exposed to media as a social movement, as activism. Honestly, it was the first time I witnessed media being used for a good cause and to make a difference in the world. It was the first time I saw media as an integral part of our 21st century world. I did not even have a Facebook or MySpace at the time but was already aware of the negative connotations associated with media as well as the dangers that come with it. I found it extremely powerful and MOVING to see media being used for something good and exposing a danger rather than creating danger for youth.
